Tasmania’s tourism sector is celebrating a significant milestone today with the grand opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hobart.
The stylish 206-room hotel boasts views of kunanyi/Mount Wellington and the Derwent River, offers guests a premium experience in the heart of the city.
Manager Steven Millhouse said the hotel will bring a ‘uniquely Tasmanian flavour’ to the brand.
“This is our first hotel into the Tasmanian market. 206 rooms, 125 king rooms, over 80 twin rooms, both featuring queen guest rooms,” he said.
“We’re already seeing increased demand. We’re going to be opening shortly with quite a number of rooms.”
Millhouse said the hotel will create 60 jobs, with many of the staff currently being familiarised with the Hilton brand.
The hotel, owned by Fragrance Group, is also home to the Leatherwood Restaurant, a bar, meeting facilities, conference spaces, a heated indoor pool, gym and sauna.
Tourism Industry Council Tasmania Chair Daniel Leesong said the worldwide Hilton brand “opens a whole new market for Hobart”.
“Hilton’s obviously a quality brand, it’s a loved brand and having it part of the mix in the Hobart city and in Tasmania is really important.”
“Any global brand that comes in and sets up shop is going to have a positive impact on the overall tourism economy.”
“We know that the more we build, the more quality infrastructure we have in place, the more popular we become.”
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the development is an “exciting milestone” for Tasmania.
“We know Tasmania has what the world wants and it is a testament to our exceptional destination offering that a brand as reputable as Hilton has launched here in Hobart,” he said.
“Adding more than 200 premium hotel rooms to the state’s landscape will support our tourism and hospitality sector and help keep our economy strong.”
