The state government has called for tenders to build an $86.5 million court complex in Burnie, days after the project received council approval.
The request for tender was released this morning, following development approval from the Burnie City Council earlier in the week.
The new complex will be built at 100-106 Wilson Street on a corner block next to the Burnie Police Station.
It will replace the existing court facilities at 38 Alexander Street.

Demolition work began in September on several buildings at the site, including a former floor coverings store, charity shop, framing business and Indian restaurant.
Tasmanian firm Batchelor Construction Group is completing the demolition and site preparation work.

Main construction is expected to begin in early 2026, subject to final approvals, with completion scheduled for 2027.
Attorney-General Guy Barnett said the project was progressing well.
“We’re seeing some real momentum with this project, hitting two major milestones in close succession,” he said.
“We have an approved development application, strong progress on enabling works at the site and we’ve now released the request for tender.”

Barnett said the location near police and other services would support court operations.
“The project will help revitalise the Burnie CBD and deliver jobs and investment for the north-west, with local businesses to benefit from increased trade both during construction and ongoing operations,” he said.
“I look forward to updating Tasmanians as this significant project continues to make progress over the coming months.”
