A new childcare centre has been proposed for the growing Glebe Hill area and it could provide care for up to 106 children.
The $3.16 million centre would be built next to the Glebe Hill Shopping Centre and will employ 19 staff.
The development application follows the Clarence City Council’s approval of plans for a new service station at the neighbouring site, which is expected to include a KFC and Hungry Jack’s.
The proposed development spans 845 square metres and features seven activity rooms, a kitchen, laundry, reception area, four bathrooms, three prep spaces and associated office and training areas.
Outdoor play areas will cover 767.2 square metres, while 20 car parking spaces and six bike racks will be provided.
The exterior of the centre will be lined with trees and fences, while shrubs will surround the parking area.
The developer also plans to incorporate public artwork into the design, which will be created in consultation with the council.
“The proposed development will allow for staged development of the neighbourhood centre and serves the residential community,” the application reads.
“A daycare centre is considered an important element in a well-serviced neighbourhood.”
Noise modelling took into account the sound of children playing outside, which the developers say is below the maximum levels and should not disrupt neighbours.
The application will stay open for feedback until early January.
