A new children’s book chronicling Tasmania’s rich football heritage and future AFL aspirations has been launched at Hobart’s Goulburn Street Primary School.
“A Devil of a Time” tells the story of Tasmanian football through vibrant illustrations and engaging storytelling, aiming to build excitement for the Tasmania Devils’ upcoming entry into the AFL and AFLW competitions.
Author Alister Nicholson, a renowned sports commentator and proud Tasmanian, read the book to primary school students on Thursday alongside Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport students and the club mascot, Rum’un.
“The story of Tasmania Football Club and Tasmania’s football heritage is one worth telling. It has been a privilege to work on this book with Tom,” Nicholson said.
“Our state has such a rich football history and an extremely vibrant football future.”
“It’s deeply satisfying writing for the next generation and it gave me great delight to see the students so engaged with the book today at the launch.”
The book, illustrated by Tom Jellett, features recognisable football characters and quirky stories from Tasmania’s sporting past while focusing on the future of the state’s football journey.
Tasmania Football Club General Manager Marketing, Public Affairs and Social Impact Kath McCann praised the book at the launch event.
“Alister and Tom have done a brilliant job creating a story that has great appeal to our next generation of fans and athletes,” McCann said.
“We expect the books will be a big hit for children and their ‘story tellers’ alike. The books are available to purchase for Tasmania Football Club members and will be a perfect Christmas gift.”
