A new ‘world-class’ cinema has opened in the remote Tasmanian town of St Helens!
The site was previously a skating rink and swimming pool, and most recently was home to the Forum Cinema which has been closed for many years.
The new owners, a group of people from a range of business backgrounds, say they have plans to bring the venue to life and “offer something for everyone” from locals to visitors.
The first stage of the development, the cinema, officially opens on Friday.
The owners have big plans to expand the venue into a bar, eatery and microbrewery.
The 48-seat cinema will be open seven days, and the operators plan on screen everything from new release blockbusters through to old classics, as well as hosting theme nights and being available for hire.
Easy Tiger Cinema co-owner, Jason Unwin, has family ties to the area and sees it as “the best place in Tasmania”.
“With my background in mountain biking, we knew St Helens was going to go off,” he said.
“There’s also all the fishing, the beaches, the scenery and the infrastructure so we felt this is a place that’s growing and an ideal place to invest.”
Mr Unwin said the overall vision for Easy Tiger was to create a social hub where the community could gather.
“There will be a beer garden and at least two different eateries.”
The other co-owners include Tim Bishop (a former head brewer at Boags) and PR consultants Brad Nowland and Emma Hope.
Easy Tiger is located at 7 Pendrigh Place, St Helens.
