Tasmania’s highly anticipated $40 million, 28-kilometre multi-day ‘Next Iconic Walk’ has taken a step forward with the release of updated artist renders.
Minister for Parks and Environment Nick Duigan said the updates are part of ongoing community consultation, which includes showcasing proposed hut and campground designs.
“The project team will share these concepts with the public at the planned information sessions,” he said.
“Those interested in the project are welcome to come along and hear about the progress, view hut concept designs, maps and photos along the track route and see the early interpretation themes for the walk.”
The next information session will be held in Launceston on 11 September at the Tailrace Centre from 2-4pm and 5-7:30pm, followed by Hobart at the Old Woolstore Hotel on 17 September from 2-4pm and 5-7:30pm.
The track route, near the Tyndall Range, has been finalised and includes identified lookouts and points of interest along the way.
“This walk will be a gamechanger for the West Coast and Tasmania more broadly,” Duigan said.
“We know our multi-day walks are in high demand and the Next Iconic Walk will complement the growing suite of great tourism products and experiences that are already available.”
The project is expected to create 139 jobs during construction and an additional 40 ongoing positions in tourism, hospitality and transport.
Completion is scheduled for 2029, with all necessary approvals targeted for 2025.
“This walk will also build on the success of the Overland Track, the Three Capes Track and enhance our reputation as one of the great walking destinations of the world,” Duigan said.
