Devonport will soon be home to the state’s first Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in the northwest from next month.
‘My Clinic Plus’ on Steele Street will be transformed into the new Urgent Care Clinic and will begin offering bulk-billed urgent services from December 11.
The clinic will operate with extended hours, seven days a week, allowing patients to seek urgent medical attention for non-life-threatening situations that might not warrant a visit to the emergency department.
Federal Health Minister Mark Butler says the new clinic will “make a big difference to patients” and will serve as an alternative for the roughly 57% of people who currently visit the Mersey Community Hospital for non-urgent or semi-urgent care cases.
“Locals will be able to walk in, see a doctor or nurse and access imaging and pathology services. This clinic will ease pressure on the Mersey Community Hospital, allowing them to concentrate on higher priority emergencies,” he says.
Two clinics are already operating in Hobart, with another also open in Launceston.
