A popular walking track in Tasmania’s West Coast wilderness has reopened after significant upgrades.
The Horsetail Falls track near Queenstown has undergone improvements over the last several months, with stage two of the project now complete.
Parks and Wildlife said the latest upgrades began earlier this year and included the construction of a new viewing platform.
“The new section of track is now open to the public, where visitors will benefit from an improved experience compared to the previous walk,” a spokesperson said.
“The new platform, which now extends right to the edge, provides excellent views from above the falls looking towards Queenstown and the coast.”
The track improvements will also enhance access to Mount Owen and nearby mountain bike trails.
A contract worth $438,699 was awarded to George Town-based CPT Engineering for the prefabrication and installation of steel sections of elevated walkway, small pedestrian bridges and the lookout platform.
Trailblazer Tracks were given $137,444 to construct a gravel track with rock edging, drainage and rock step sections.
