Launceston commuters will soon have access to new park and ride facilities, with work underway to identify three potential locations.

The sites will be situated in the Legana/West Tamar, Kings Meadows/Youngtown and East Tamar/northern suburbs areas.

Minister for Transport Eric Abetz said $20 million is being invested into the three new facilities.

“As we work to improve our public transport system, these new park and ride facilities will encourage commuters to jump on board and ease some of the pressure on our main roads during peak hours,” he said.

“Park and Rides have proven highly effective in the South, providing commuters with a comfortable and easy alternative to driving their car into the city centre.”

“Now it’s the north’s turn.”

Abetz said teams are currently on the ground searching for suitable locations that are close to or on high-use transport corridors.

“Designs will be guided by the successful park and ride facilities in Greater Hobart, along with improved bus stops, bicycle parking and passenger pick up and drop off areas,” he said.
