Clarence residents can now recycle soft plastics through a new service aimed at cutting waste.
The initiative, run in partnership with RecycleSmart, is designed to keep more soft plastics out of landfill and encourage better recycling habits in the community.
Locals can drop off their soft plastics at collection points at the Second Chance Re-Use Shop at the Mornington Waste Transfer Station and Glebe Hill Shopping Centre.
Clarence City Council Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the new service is a “much-needed” one.
“By providing an avenue for soft plastics recycling, we are taking a significant step towards minimising waste and a more sustainable future,” he said.

“Soft plastics are a challenging material to recycle through our standard kerbside collections and recycling facilities.”
He added that the cost of disposing of soft plastics is high, with over 1,420 tonnes ending up in landfills last year at a cost of more than $230,000.
Soft plastics include lightweight materials that can be scrunched in your hand, like plastic bags, cling wrap, chip packets and food packaging.
