New Spirit of Tasmania ships on track for 2024 completion

The construction of the new Spirit of Tasmania IV and V ships is well underway.

Being built by Rauma Marine Constructions in Finland, the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels will have a larger capacity than the current ships.

The overall length will increase from 194.33 metres to 212 metres, with passenger capacity set to jump from 1,400 to 1,800.

Around 79 extra cabins will also be added, taking the total from 222 to 301, while the number of lane metres for passenger and freight vehicles on board will also increase by nearly 60%.

The new ‘game changing’ ships will feature 118 standard seat recliners and 47 business recliners.

The Spirit of Tasmania IV is set to arrive in Australia in the first three months of 2024, while the Spirit of Tasmania V is expected to be delivered by the end of next year.
