A new dental network is making preventive oral healthcare more affordable across Tasmania by eliminating out-of-pocket costs for basic services.
The St Lukes Dental Network gives eligible members access to essential treatments, such as check-ups, X-rays, scale and cleans and fissure sealing, with zero gap payments.
“Patients at clinics outside of the dental network typically pay a gap between what their fund covers and fees charged by the clinic, even if they have private health insurance,” St Lukes COO Darren Harris said.
“St Lukes has a vision of making Tasmania the healthiest island on the planet. As part of that we recognise that good oral health is critical to being able to achieve that goal.”
Dentists across both urban and rural areas have already started joining the program.

Dr Brandon Krapf, who operates Trusted Smiles in Westbury, sees the financial benefit for his patients.
“Our goal is to keep patients coming in for regular checkups, catching minor issues early before they become a dental emergency,” he said.
“If funds only remunerate for major dental, it’s a disincentive for dentists to prioritise preventative services.”
