New polling from EMRS indicates that Labor leader Dean Winter hasn’t quite won over voters compared to his predecessor, Rebecca White.

The state voting intentions survey, conducted between May 16 and 23, found that 32% of Tasmanians prefer Winter as Premier, compared to the 38% who favoured White in a February poll.

While Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s popularity has also dipped slightly from 41% to 40%, he still enjoys the support of a larger percentage of voters than Winter.

The poll also revealed that a significant portion of Tasmanians are undecided, with 26% unable to choose between the two leaders, up from 20% in February.

“Dean Winter has not been long in the role as opposition leader however, these results on preferred premier indicate voters are yet to be convinced,” EMRS Managing Director Paul Jamrozik said.

“At the same time, Jeremy Rockliff needs to reinforce to voters why he is the preferred premier during his honeymoon period.”

The survey of 1,000 Tasmanians also reflects changes in party support since the state election.

The Liberals have seen their support fall from 37% to 35%, while Labor dropped a point to 28%.

The Greens saw a small increase, climbing to 15%, while the Lambie Network remained steady at 7%.

Support for independent candidates jumped considerably from 4% to 12%.

The poll also revealed that health and the cost of living remain top concerns for Tasmanians.
