Travellers departing Hobart can now get a final taste of Tasmania at a new retail and tasting store in the airport’s departures area.

Purely Tasmania opens today, stocking local producers including Sullivans Cove whisky, Van Diemens Land Creamery, Richmond Botanicals and LARK.

The 248-square-metre space features a central bar and tasting area alongside retail displays, offering both take-home gifts and a dine-in experience.

It is the second new store to open as part of Hobart Airport’s $200 million terminal upgrade, following a Relay convenience store late last year.

The terminal upgrade is part of a $200 million airport expansion project

Hobart Airport chief financial and commercial officer Kate Gillies said the store gave passengers one last chance to experience the state’s best offerings before flying out.

“Purely Tasmania is a wonderful showcase of our island, its makers and our quality produce, featuring whisky, gin, wine, cheese, fudge and honey, alongside a curated tasting menu starring regional ingredients,” she said.

The upgrade will expand retail stores from three to seven outlets

The store is operated by travel retailer LagardereAWPL.

CEO Costa Kouros said the company was proud to bring the concept to life.

The terminal upgrade will ultimately double the size of the departures area and expand the airport from five to nine food and beverage outlets and three to seven retail stores.

A new Qantas Club lounge with 50% more seating and a Hungry Jack’s are also expected when the broader upgrade wraps up in early 2027.

Hobart Airport handled 2.8 million passengers last financial year, with forecasts tipping that to reach 3.5 million by 2030.

The airport was originally designed for 1.5 million passengers a year.

Its runway has also been upgraded to handle larger aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, opening the door to more international routes.
