A Southern Tasmanian cat shelter is stepping up to assist struggling pet owners in the current cost-of-living crisis with a new food initiative.
Ten Lives’ ‘Meow Meals Feline Food Assistance Program’ aims to provide essential food support, enabling cat owners to maintain ownership and ensure the well-being of their beloved pets.
“No one should have to face the heartbreaking decision of surrendering their cherished companion due to financial hardships,” Ten Lives CEO Noel Hunt said.
“With Meow Meals we aim to alleviate the burden on struggling pet owners and keep cats in loving homes where they belong.”
Meow Meals two-week cat food packages will be available to individuals and families facing financial constraints with “no questions asked”.
“All they need to do is come and ask for a meow meal … It’s about animal welfare,” Hunt said.
“Meow Meals will focus on accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that those in need can easily access assistance for their feline companions.”
Ten Lives say more Tasmanians have been surrendering their cats to shelters in recent months due to the cost of living crisis.
