The incident on the two-lane Bridport Road near Santarena Park, around 8km out of Scottsdale, reportedly involved speeds over 100km/h.

The near-miss comes off the back of National Road Safety Week, in which authorities urged drivers to take more care on the roads.

“With the highest road toll of any Australian state, Tasmania has already had a devastating start to the year on our roads with eight deaths and 114 serious injuries,” RACT chief executive Mark Mugnaioni said.

“Last year, distraction while driving contributed to more than 11% of deaths and almost 16% of serious injuries on Tasmanian roads.”

“It’s crucial the community comes together and each of us take responsibility for our actions on to create a safer driving environment for all.”

Footage of dangerous driving incidents can be reported to police on 131 444 or uploaded to their online portal.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at crimestopperstas.com.au.
