Hobart’s Taste of Summer is shaking up the way people buy food and drinks at the festival, in an effort to reduce time spent waiting in lines.

Table service will be introduced for the first time in the event’s history, but only for those sitting in its premium Yacht Club area.

The exclusive waterfront space, a collaboration with The Tasman hotel, will allow guests to enjoy Tasmanian food and drinks delivered directly to their tables.

Taste of Summer General Manager Katharine Dean said the upgrade would elevate the experience for attendees.

“Guests will be able to take in the waterfront atmosphere without having to leave their seat,” she said.

“Whether it is a glass of Clover Hill sparkling, a locally inspired cocktail or dishes from some of Tasmania’s favourite producers, it will all be available through table service.”

Now in its third year, the Yacht Club VIP area offers priority entry, prime waterfront seating, a dedicated bar with Tasmanian cocktails, wine and beer and views of the Sydney to Hobart and Melbourne to Hobart yacht races.

The Tasman’s General Manager Carolyn Smith described the partnership as a natural fit.

“The Taste of Summer is an iconic event that brings together everything that makes Tasmania special,” Smith said.

“We are delighted to once again partner with the Taste to help create a premium experience right on the waterfront.”

Taste of Summer CEO Stephen McMullen said ticket sales for this year’s event are up on last year.

“We’re really pleased with how they’re tracking. Last year was a record year for us in many ways and we’re slightly ahead of where we were last year which is great news,” McMullen said.
