Noah and Charlotte: Tasmania's most popular baby names for 2025 revealed

Noah has claimed the top spot for boys’ names in Tasmania for the first time, while Charlotte has returned to lead the girls’ list after a two-year absence.

New data from Births, Deaths and Marriages Tasmania reveals the most popular baby names registered in the state last year.

Noah, a Hebrew name meaning ‘rest’ or ‘comfort’, climbed from sixth place in 2024 to take the crown, continuing a strong run that has seen it feature in Tasmania’s top 10 every year since 2020.

Charlotte, derived from the French feminine form of Charles, meaning ‘free man’, last held the top position in 2021.

The name slipped to third in 2023 before climbing back to second in 2024 and reclaiming the top spot last year.

Oliver, which dominated the boys’ list for five consecutive years from 2020 to 2024, has fallen to third place.

Charlie edged up one spot to second, while Archie held steady at fourth.

On the girls’ side, Isla retained second place, while Hazel slipped to third after spending two consecutive years at number one.

Several familiar names dropped out of the rankings altogether.

Thomas, Oscar and William disappeared from the boys’ top 10, while Ivy, Grace and Willow fell off the girls’ list.
