A 46-year-old man has been charged with murder after a Tasmania Police officer was fatally shot in the state’s north-west on Monday.
The North Motton man faces charges of murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault following the death of Constable Keith Smith.
He appeared in a bedside court sitting today while receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
His identify has not yet been made public.

The man remains under police guard in the Launceston General Hospital and will reappear in court at a later date.
Tasmania Police Commissioner Donna Adams today praised the investigation team’s work in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

“I want to sincerely thank all those who have played a part in this investigation,” Commissioner Adams said.
“Their diligent work in such difficult circumstances is to be commended.”
“I would also like to thank community members for the outpouring of support they have shown Keith’s family and friends and Tasmania Police more broadly.”
