Northern Tasmania Development Corporation has named Michael Bailey as its new chief executive officer, replacing outgoing boss Chris Griffin.
Bailey, who was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2024 for service to business, comes to the role after 13 years leading the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He’s held senior positions at the Launceston Chamber of Commerce, Country Club Tasmania and the Australian Maritime College, and has served on the boards of TasBuild and the Tasmanian JackJumpers.
NTDC board chair Allison Anderson said the appointment followed a highly competitive recruitment process.

“Michael is one of Tasmania’s most respected leaders, with an exceptional track record in advocacy, strategic leadership, and building strong partnerships,” Anderson said.
“His deep understanding of Tasmania’s economic landscape positions NTDC strongly as we continue to champion investment, liveability, and sustainable growth across Northern Tasmania.”

Bailey said he was honoured to take on the role.
“Northern Tasmania is a region of enormous opportunity, and I look forward to working with NTDC’s members, partners, industry, and government to help shape its next chapter of growth and prosperity,” he said.
Anderson also paid tribute to Griffin, who was appointed to lead NTDC in October 2023.
“On behalf of the Board, I sincerely thank Chris for his leadership, commitment, and contribution to NTDC over the past three years,” she said.

“Chris has provided steady leadership during an important period for the organisation, strengthening relationships across our member councils, partners, and stakeholders, and positioning NTDC strongly for the future.”
Bailey will officially start in the role on July 1.
