A man who lost his life in a farm vehicle incident has been remembered as a “great mate” who will be “dearly missed” by his family and friends.
New Zealand-born Karl Wayne Stokes was reportedly herding livestock on a rural property at Lileah in Tasmania’s far north-west when the ATV he was riding flipped on Thursday, August 1.
He was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries, where he passed away two days later.
A funeral notice described Stokes as a “great mate” who will be “dearly missed” by his family and friends.
“For those who knew Karl, you know how passionate he was about his family, farming, his motorbikes, caravans and coffee,” the notice said.
“What you may not know, is that he felt strongly about being a donor and his passing will save many lives.”
Karl is survived by his wife Jane and five children Jayde, Arleigh, Ryley, Montaya and Zavarnah.
“So lucky to have had 20 (almost 21) amazing years with this beautiful man as my father. This has been the hardest time of my life,” daughter Zavarnah shared online.
“I can not wait to see you again one day. I will look at the stars and think of you. You have taught me how to be kind, generous and love fiercely.”
“I will admire you forever. Thank you for giving me my amazing siblings, I would be so lost without them by my side.”
Police said WorkSafe Tasmania is investigating the incident.
Stokes was a co-owner of the Tarkine Blueberries business in Lileah.
