A dangerous incident on Tasmania’s western rail line has prompted urgent safety warnings.
TasRail released a concerning image on Tuesday showing an off-road vehicle driving directly on railway tracks near Railton before the driver had to swerve when encountering an oncoming locomotive.
Most alarmingly, rail authorities confirmed a small child was visible in the passenger seat of the vehicle during the near-miss.
The incident occurred around 11am on Christmas Eve.

“The rail corridor is not somewhere we want people recreating,” TasRail stated in a social media post.
“Please people, STOP, THINK and ACT safely around our trains.”
The incident has been reported to Tasmania Police, with TasRail confirming they have obtained the vehicle’s registration details and will be pursuing the matter further.
