A no-confidence motion in the Tasmanian Liberal government has failed spectacularly, with only Labor’s 10 MPs backing the bid to topple Premier Jeremy Rockliff.
The motion was rejected by all other members of the 35-seat House of Assembly.
That included the five Greens MPs, as well as independents Craig Garland, Peter George, David O’Byrne, George Razay and Kristie Johnston.
Shooters, Fishers and Farmers MP Carlo Di Falco also sided with the crossbench in refusing to support the push.

When addressing parliament, MPs made it clear that while they hold little confidence in the Liberal government, they have even less in Labor.
“Never have I come across an opposition party less ready for government,” Peter George said.

Razay told parliament Tasmanians had voted for stability in the state election and would “detest going to another election”.
“I’m therefore giving my support to the current government led by the Honourable Premier Jeremy Rockliff and I’m therefore voting against the no confidence motion,” he said.
More to come…
