Telstra customers in the Cradle Mountain area should expect some disruption to their mobile services over the next week.

The company is upgrading its base station to bring improved 4G and 5G coverage to the region.

The work, which will begin this morning, is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.

During the upgrade, temporary outages or a reduction in mobile coverage may occur, Telstra says.

“While coverage and capacity will decline during this time, we want to keep the amount of time the site is off air to an absolute minimum,” regional general manager Michael Patterson said.

“There’s never a good time to undertake this sort of work but once it is completed, it will mean better mobile services for local residents.”

Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be affected by the upgrade.

Calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile will be automatically diverted to any working mobile network in the area for connection to emergency services when the site is offline.
