Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff has overhauled his cabinet following the resignations of two senior ministers earlier this week.
Deputy Premier Guy Barnett has been appointed as the state’s new Treasurer, a role he will hold alongside his existing portfolios of Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
Jacquie Petrusma will take over the health, Aboriginal affairs and veterans’ affairs portfolios.
Former Sorell Mayor Kerry Vincent will become Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Local Government.
Premier Rockliff said he is confident that the “refreshed” cabinet will keep Tasmania moving forward.
“As Treasurer, Guy will ensure that we continue to foster economic growth and activity and promote a business-friendly investment environment,” he said.
“Jacquie is an experienced Minister having previously held various portfolios including human services, parks and environment and police.”
“As a Registered Nurse, Jacquie will bring with her an intimate knowledge of the challenges that our health system faces and an awareness of the inner workings of our hospitals like no other.”
“Kerry will be a real driver of better outcomes for a number of key infrastructure projects across the state.”
Other portfolio changes include Nick Duigan taking over Parks, Sports and Events, Felix Ellis Consumer Affairs and Jane Howlett Hospitality and Small Business.
Roger Jaensch will manage Mental Health and Wellbeing and Finance, Madeleine Ogilvie Environment, Innovation and Science and the Digital Economy.
Simon Wood will remain as Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing and Government Whip.
Simon Behrakis will become the Premier’s Parliamentary Secretary and continue his support for Minister Ellis as Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Planning.
Rob Fairs will take on the new role of Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement.
The reshuffle was prompted by the resignations of Michael Ferguson and Nic Street, who both stepped down during the week.
