More than 160 Tasmanian sporting clubs will share in almost $1 million in grants to upgrade equipment and facilities.
The state government’s 2024–25 Active Clubs Program has awarded $967,647 across 162 projects, supporting everything from archery to croquet.
Sports Minister Nick Duigan said the funding would boost grassroots sport across the state.
“We are supporting the upgrade and replacement of equipment across 162 projects statewide, including the Launceston City Cycling Club which will deliver a new road and track bikes,” he said.
Six clubs received the maximum $20,000 grant, including New Norfolk Golf Club, Sandy Bay Sailing Club, Swimming Tasmania, Tam O’Shanter Golf and Community Club, The Riverside Golf Club and Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club.
The smallest grant of $1,001 went to the Derwent Hockey Club.
“By upgrading clubs’ training gear, uniforms and safety equipment, we are empowering them to deliver engaging programs tailored for all ages and abilities,” Duigan said.
Funding covers playing equipment, coaching and umpiring gear, safety gear, uniforms, IT equipment, watercraft and venue maintenance tools.
Clubs applying for less than $3,000 did not need to contribute, while those receiving $3,000 or more must cover at least 25% of project costs.
Duigan said the benefits stretched beyond sport itself.
“It’s about supporting mental health, fostering lifelong friendships and building stronger communities,” he said.
