A young P-plater has had his Holden Commodore seized after police allegedly clocked him travelling at almost double the speed limit on a Tasmanian highway.
The 20-year-old was detected doing 199km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Bass Highway at Westbury about 8:50pm on Saturday.
He will be summonsed to appear in court, where he faces an extended licence disqualification and a significant fine.
Acting Sergeant Luke Murfitt-Cowen of said the behaviour put lives at risk.
“The consequences of this level of reckless driving can be catastrophic,” he said.

“Drivers who engage in dangerous and irresponsible behaviour will be identified, investigated and can expect to face serious penalties.”
Under Tasmanian law, vehicles can be impounded when drivers exceed the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Police are urging motorists to report dangerous driving by calling 131 444.
