A tragic incident between a car and a pedestrian has claimed the life of a young boy outside a Hobart school this afternoon.
The 12-year-old was hit by a vehicle on Main Road Moonah outside of Cosgrove High School shortly after 3pm on Friday.
Despite attempts by first responders, the boy sadly passed away at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” police said.
“Investigations into the crash are continuing, with forensics and crash investigators deployed to the scene.”
The driver of the vehicle has been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for mandatory blood testing.
Main Road is expected to be closed between Elwick Road and Lampton Avenue for several hours as investigations continue.
