The latest on this story: Authorities urge people in Zeehan to evacuate immediately as bushfire threatens homes
An “uncontrollable” bushfire threatening the West Coast town of Zeehan has prompted authorities to issue a “prepare to leave” warning this afternoon.
The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) issued a watch and act alert for the area shortly before 3pm on Thursday. The warning is one of many in place across the region.
Authorities say the Yellowband Plain fire is expected to pose a high risk to the community within three to four hours.
“The fire is travelling towards Zeehan,” the TFS said. “Conditions are expected to be changeable.”

“If you have prepared your home and can actively defend it, it should provide shelter.”
“If you are going to leave, make sure you have a clear path to a safer place. Queenstown is currently a safe location to travel to.”
Emergency services are urging non-residents to avoid the area, warning that roads could become “very dangerous” as the fire situation develops.
The Yellowband Plain blaze has already consumed 14,000 hectares.
The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for the region, with wind gusts expected to exceed 90km/h today.
