17-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy killed in serious crash at Crabtree

Updated, Saturday 11am: A second passenger, a 15-year-old male youth, has died overnight following a crash on Crabtree road.

It follows the death of a 17-year-old male youth at the scene of the crash last night.

Police say a 23-year-old man who was driving the vehicle and two 15-year-old male youths were also taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.

Earlier: A 17-year-old boy has died and another person is in a critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Crabtree Road in the Huon Valley.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene near 383 Crabtree Road shortly before 9pm on Friday.

Police say initial inquiries indicate the male was a passenger in a silver Mazda sedan travelling west on Crabtree Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it collided with a power pole.

Police say there was five occupants in the vehicle, believing speed was a contributing factor.

“Another passenger is in a critical condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital. The remaining occupants were taken for examination as well,” a police spokesperson said.
