A woman has died after her car collided with a semi-trailer at an intersection in Tasmania’s Midlands this afternoon.
The fatal crash occurred about 2:15pm on Wednesday at the intersection of the Midland Highway and the northern turn-off to Ross.
Police say the woman was driving a small blue sedan that was exiting the turn-off when it collided with the semi-trailer travelling south.
The woman, who police believe may be an international person, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inspector Craig Fox said Interpol checks were under way to confirm her identity.

“It’s always a tragedy when someone loses their life on the roads, especially with a crash that’s preventable,” Fox said.
“We always like to remind drivers to be very careful on the highways, especially when exiting or entering the highway.”

The semi-trailer driver was taken to Campbell Town Hospital for mandatory blood testing.
He was physically uninjured and is operating with police, Fox said.
Emergency services closed the road for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene.
