A new Petbarn store could open on the fringe of Hobart’s CBD, with the national pet supply chain lodging plans for a 463-square-metre retail outlet on Warwick Street.
The application, now on public display with Hobart City Council, would see an existing vacant office building converted into the company’s fourth greater Hobart location.
Petbarn already operates stores in Kingston, Rosny and Derwent Park.
Planning documents show the proposal at 9 Warwick Street sits in the Urban Mixed Use Zone near Campbell Street, surrounded by car yards, Marshall Batteries and other commercial premises.
The building includes 19 car parking spaces across front and rear areas, exceeding the 15 spaces required under planning rules.

No structural changes are proposed, with works limited to internal fitout, repainting the exterior yellow and installing signage.
Planning documents argue the store would “enhance the broader commercial precinct by introducing a distinct retail offering” and activate an under-utilised site.
