Police arrest man following alleged 'targeted knife incident' in Hobart

Updated – 10am, Wednesday 30 July: A 17-year-old will appear before the court at a later date in relation to an incident on Shoreline Drive about 3.15pm yesterday.

He will be summonsed in relation to a charge of possessing a dangerous article in a public place.

No one was physically injured in the incident which was targeted and between people known to each other.

Earlier: A man has been arrested following reports he threatened someone with a knife on Hobart’s eastern shore this afternoon.

The incident occurred about 3:15pm on Tuesday and prompted a large police response, including specialist officers.

Police said the man took off from the scene of the Shoreline Drive incident in a car.

He was intercepted a short time later on the South Arm Highway near the Tasmania Police Academy.

Police said no one was physically injured in what they believe was a “targeted” attack between “people known to each other”.

The man is now in custody and helping police with their enquiries.

Police confirmed a knife has been seized as evidence.
