Snow chasers hoping to witness this weekend’s snowfall on Mt Barrow have become stuck after vehicles got bogged on the road up to the peak.

Police say the road to the mountain, east of Launceston, is now closed at the boom gate due to heavy snow.

The road was closed on Saturday evening due to worsening conditions, only reopening to 4WD vehicles a short time later.

Officers are currently providing assistance to vehicles that have travelled beyond the gate.

The closure comes after nearby Ben Lomond recorded its ‘biggest snow day of the year’ yesterday, with hundreds visiting the peak for the last weekend of the school holidays.
