A man caught towing a car that was itself towing a boat on a busy highway in Tasmania’s north-west has been charged with several traffic offences.

The 44-year-old from West Ulverstone was stopped on the Bass Highway at Latrobe on Friday following reports of the daisy chain from a member of the public.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker said the disqualified man was driving an unregistered vehicle without premium cover while towing an unregistered trailer.

He also tested positive for illicit drugs.

Parker described the incident as “particularly baffling”.

“It is disappointing that some individuals continue to disregard the law and endanger other road users,” he said.

The man will appear in Burnie Magistrates Court in late April.
