Police breathalyse 1,200 drivers in Friday festive safety blitz

Tasmania Police conducted two major random breath test operations across southern Tasmania on Friday night, with a small number of drivers caught breaking the law.

More than 1,200 motorists were tested during the operations.

While most drivers were complying with road rules, police detected two drivers over the legal alcohol limit and one who returned a positive drug test.

Officers also identified several vehicles with defects and a number of provisional licence holders who were breaching passenger restrictions.

“This festive season, please plan ahead, drive responsibly and make sure you get to your destination safely,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.

“Your choices on the road matter. Let’s keep everyone safe this holiday season.”
