A 13-year-old girl is facing a raft of theft charges after allegedly being caught red-handed stealing from a Launceston business during a police patrol yesterday.
The arrest was part of a successful night for Taskforce Raven, which saw officers clear 28 shoplifting cases in one evening while conducting foot patrols through the city’s CBD.
The teenager will appear in court charged with 21 stealing offences, 31 relevant contraventions, five counts of possessing liquor under 18 years, resisting police and possessing a restricted substance.
A 17-year-old girl also arrested overnight has been charged with seven stealing offences, six relevant contravention breaches and two counts of possessing liquor under 18.
Detective Acting Inspector Jason Jones said the foot patrols had delivered results for the community.
“Taskforce Raven is continuing to proactively target crime reduction, recidivist offenders and youth crime across the Northern District,” he said.
“While the taskforce is just one of a range of strategies, we continue to see strong results being delivered by our members.”
Both youths were processed through the youth justice system, with the cases now proceeding through the courts.
