Police are searching for the injured driver of a stolen car who fled after crashing on Hobart’s Bowen Bridge early this morning.
The green Hyundai Excel slammed into a truck at about 5:50am on Monday, after being stolen from Tolosa Street in Glenorchy overnight.
Police say the driver took off on foot and is believed to be injured. The truck driver escaped without harm.
Marine rescue crews and a police helicopter were earlier scouring the water under the bridge amid fears someone from the car may have gone over the side.

Both Glenorchy-bound lanes were closed for three hours, causing significant traffic delays during the morning peak. The lanes have since reopened.
Police said the vehicle’s occupants were “at this stage … unaccounted for” in the early hours of the investigation.
Investigators are appealing for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the theft of the Hyundai or seen the vehicle being driven overnight.
