It is the same area where seven bone fragments were located earlier this week.

Commander Nathan Johnston said search and rescue experts were winched into the area by helicopter, about two and a half kilometres from Philosopher Falls.

“Today’s search resulted in the discovery of more bones, as well as clothing items – including a polar fleece jacket – that we believe are likely to belong to Celine,” he said.

The 31-year-old Belgian backpacker vanished on June 17, 2023, while bushwalking in the area.

Johnston said formal forensic confirmation of identity would take time.

“However, the location and nature of the items found today indicate they are likely to be Celine’s,” he said.

Volunteer searcher Jarrod Boys made the initial discovery on Wednesday when he found two bones on the dry, rocky riverbed.

Forensic officers later recovered five additional fragments, including a lower jawbone.

Johnston said Cremer’s family in Belgium was being kept informed.

“We recognise how significant these developments are for Celine’s family and we are ensuring they receive updates as sensitively and promptly as possible,” he said.

“Our search team has continued to work into the early evening today and the plan is for police to continue to methodologically search the area tomorrow.”

“We understand the strong public interest in this case and will provide further information to the community when we are able to do so.”
