Aerial searches have found no trace of a missing Tasmanian couple almost two weeks after their light aircraft vanished over the Bass Strait.

72-year-old Gregory Vaughan and Kim Worner, 66, took off from George Town Airport with their dog at 12:45pm on Saturday, August 2.

They have not been seen or heard from since. Despite extensive sweeps off the state’s north-east coast, search teams have found no sign of the pair or their aircraft.

Today, the police helicopter scoured waters in Tasmania’s north-east and the Furneaux Group of islands, including Flinders Island.

Poor weather hampered earlier search efforts this week and today’s aerial sweeps again came up empty-handed.

“The helicopter sweeps did not reveal any wreckage or debris that could indicate the location of the plane,” Inspector Craig Fox said.

The search area was determined using drift modelling to predict where any wreckage of the distinctive green two-seater Bristell S-LSA aircraft might have travelled in the Bass Strait waters.

Inspector Fox said police would continue reviewing search operations daily, with no decision yet on suspending the effort.

He urged anyone who may have seen an aircraft matching the description or noticed unusual debris on land or in coastal waters to contact police.
