Police hunt for driver who fled breath test near Devonport

Updated – Saturday, 8:20pm: A female driver is in custody after being intercepted by police at Wesley Vale in the state’s north west, police say.

As a result of information provided by a member of the public, the woman was safely intercepted by police in Mill Road near the intersection of Moorland Beach Road a short time ago.

Police have thanked members of the public for their information and assistance, saying investigations into the incident are continuing.

Earlier: Tasmania Police are searching for a female driver who allegedly evaded a breath test in Spreyton this evening.

The incident occurred around 5:45pm when officers patrolling Mersey Main Road attempted to intercept a white Toyota Corolla for a random breath test.

Instead of complying with police directions, the driver allegedly fled the scene, last spotted travelling along Mersey Main Road approximately five minutes after the initial attempted interception.

Police unsuccessfully attempted to deploy spikes but abandoned further pursuit due to safety concerns for other road users.

The vehicle, which has the registration I68XZ, has become the focus of a police appeal for public assistance.

Authorities are now calling on the Spreyton community and surrounding areas to assist with the investigation by providing any relevant information.

This includes dash cam footage or CCTV that may have captured the white Toyota Corolla in the area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the vehicle is urged to contact Devonport Police on 131444, quoting ESCAD job 315-23112025.
