Police are seeking public help to catch a motorcycle-riding burglar who allegedly targeted multiple east coast businesses over the weekend, stealing cash from venues including vineyard cellar doors and food outlets.

Detective Acting Sergeant Matt Smith said several burglaries were committed along the Tasman Highway between 5pm Saturday February 21 and the morning of February February 22.

The offender allegedly forced entry into businesses across Apslawn, Cranbrook, Swansea and Bicheno, making off with quantities of cash from each venue.

“We believe the offender is likely the rider of a motorcycle and was using this vehicle to travel progressively from one location to the next,” Smith said.

He said the late-night motorcycle activity should have stood out to locals.

“This may have caught someone’s attention, as it would likely have been late at night and riding a motorcycle on the highway at that time is unusual due to the high wildlife activity on East Coast roads at night,” Smith said.

Police suspect the burglar may have used a support vehicle to transport stolen goods.

Investigators are particularly interested in dashcam footage that may have captured the solo rider travelling through Swansea and Bicheno areas on Saturday night.

“We are asking any members of the public that may have noticed suspicious behaviour around businesses along the Tasman Highway on the East Coast, or has dashcam footage of a solo motorcycle rider in the Swansea and Bicheno areas late Saturday night, to contact police,” Smith said.
