Authorities are investigating a suspicious house fire in Mayfield that investigators believe was deliberately lit overnight.
Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze at the Hume Street property in Launceston’s just before 1am on Friday.
Tasmania Fire Service crews attended the scene and successfully contained the fire before it spread.
No one was inside the house at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.
Fire investigators determined the blaze was deliberately lit, prompting police to launch a criminal investigation.
Northern Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are now examining the circumstances surrounding the suspicious fire and are appealing for public assistance.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Hume Street area around the time of the incident to come forward.
