5pm, Tuesday January 30: A man who spent over 50 hours alone in bushland on the Tasman Peninsula has walked out with his SES rescuers.
Jack Lockley, 26, was “safely extracted” from the Fortescue Bay area on Tuesday afternoon and transported by Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Inspector Jon Cooper said Lockley was “very, very, very lucky”.
“We’ve had good weather in the area which has helped and we’ve had very good search teams out there looking for him,” Lockley told 7.
Cooper said Lockley become lost while driving in the area and became bogged, with his phone then running flat.
“Sometimes people think that they can walk out in the dark, there are formed tracks in the area, but it is an old forestry area and those tracks can lead to nothing.”
11:30am, Tuesday January 30: A man missing in the Tasman National Park for more than 48 hours has been found “dehydrated” in dense bushland.
Police said 26-year-old Jack Lockley was located in dense bushland near a creek on Tuesday morning.
Search and rescue teams are now working with SES to “safely extricate” him from the area.
9:30am Tuesday, January 30: The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and police search and rescue crews have joined the search for a missing man on the Tasman Peninsula.
Jack Lockley, 26, was last seen in the Fortescue Bay area at around 5am on Sunday morning, with police later locating his vehicle unattended at 2pm Monday.
“Anyone who has seen Jack since early Sunday morning is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 (this can be done anonymously),” police said.
A further update on the progress and circumstances surrounding the search is expected after 11am this morning.
7:10pm Monday, January 29: Police have launched an urgent search for a man who has been missing from the Tasman National Park on the Tasman Peninsula for over 24 hours.
26-year-old Jack Lockley has been missing from the Fortescue Bay area since around 5am on Sunday.
Authorities have since located Lockley’s vehicle in the area, which was unattended earlier today.
“If you’ve seen Jack please phone police on 131 444 and quote reference number ESCAD 72-29012024,” police said.
