'Safe and well': Police call off search for 'swimmer in danger' at Sandy Bay

Updated 4pm, Saturday: Police have called off their search for a swimmer reported to be in danger off Sandy Bay’s Long Beach.

Police said the person has made contact with them and is “safe and well”.

Earlier: Police have launched an urgent search operation at Long Beach in Sandy Bay after reports of a swimmer in danger near the pontoon.

The alarm was raised around 11am today when witnesses reported concerns for a swimmer, believed to be female, who was last seen wearing a pink cap.

Tasmania Police are actively searching the area and have called for public assistance to help locate the missing swimmer.

Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have been swimming in the area themselves or witnessed the person in the pink cap entering or exiting the water.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to call police on 131444, quoting reference number ESCAD 124-28062025.
