She was later charged with multiple offences, including possession of a dangerous article in a public place and is due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today.

A 19-year-old Burnie man also allegedly fled police while riding an unregistered motorbike without a helmet or licence.

He was bailed to appear in court on January 20.

The 50-year-old Burnie man caught travelling at 97km/h in a 60km/h zone was given a $615 fine and five demerit points.

Four drivers were charged with drink-driving, including a 23-year-old Devonport man who blew 0.162 at Latrobe and a 66-year-old Shorewell Park man who returned a reading of 0.117 at Burnie while not wearing a seatbelt.

Three drivers tested positive for drugs, while a 34-year-old Westbury man was caught driving while disqualified at Stoney Rise.

In total, police issued 43 speeding infringements across the region.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker described the results as “extremely disappointing”.

“Tragically this year we have seen a devastating increase in fatalities on our roads,” he said.

“And it’s disappointing to see that some motorists continue to put themselves and other road users at risk.”

He said police would continue targeting speeding, drink-driving, inattentive drivers and those not wearing seatbelts.

“These factors overwhelmingly contribute to serious and fatal crashes,” he said.
