Tasmania Police have caught out a group of intoxicated men they say thought it was a good idea to switch drivers after being pulled over for driving drunk.

Officers initially stopped the vehicle near Stanley in the state’s north-west on Saturday following an anonymous tip-off about a possible drink driver.

The original driver of the vehicle blew 0.079, one and a half times over the limit.

Police said he was told “not to drive”.

“The two passengers were also advised not to operate the vehicle,” police said.

However, police later spotted the same vehicle heading back towards Stanley and pulled it over again.

This time, one of the passengers was behind the wheel and blew 0.117, more than twice the legal limit.

“Some people just don’t get it,” police said.

“Police urge all motorists to drive responsibly and remind everyone that drinking and driving is never worth the risk.”
