An unlicensed driver has been banned from the road for 12 months after police caught him almost three times over the legal blood alcohol limit in northern Tasmania.
Officers pulled over a red Nissan Navara utility on Main Street in Cressy just after 6pm on Friday.
The 34-year-old man returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.135 – nearly three times the legal limit of 0.05.
Unlicensed drivers, however, are prohibited from having any alcohol in their system.
The man was arrested and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Police said they were particularly concerned the incident happened during poor weather conditions.
“Police are disappointed that any driver would drink and drive, let alone in the hazardous conditions brought about by the significant rainfall today across the state,” a police said.
“This driver’s actions put himself and other road users at risk.”
“Drink-driving is one of the fatal five causes for serious and fatal crashes.”
“Our officers will continue to conduct both high visibility and covert patrols to prevent such dangerous behaviour.”
