Police are working to locate a person accused of removing safety fencing from Huonville High School in a brazen evening theft they say puts students at risk.
The incident happened between 7:40pm and 7:58pm on Tuesday at the Wilmot Road school.
Police said the fencing was recently installed to stop people running into the path of moving vehicles.
“Police and school staff are extremely disappointed as this fencing was recently put in place for the safety of children catching buses from the area,” police said.
“The fencing prevented children from running straight into the carpark into the path of moving vehicles.”
Police have released an image of the vehicle involved and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The CCTV shows a white ute and a person wearing a bright orange shirt with dark pants.
Witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously or share information directly with police on 131 444.
