Police are trying to identify a young tradesman who may have crucial information about a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man on the Bass Highway.

The man was driving an older-model white Toyota Hilux behind a red Honda motorcycle just before it crashed at Elizabeth Town on Friday afternoon.

He stopped to help at the scene but left before police arrived.

Officers say the driver, described as a younger male wearing high-visibility clothing, is wanted as a witness only.

“… There is no information to suggest he was involved in the crash,” police said.

“Police would like to speak to this person as he may have valuable information in relation to the crash.”

Investigators believe the motorcyclist was heading south on the Bass Highway, just north of Elizabeth Town, when he hit wire safety barriers and lost control about 3:50pm on 31 October.

He died at the scene.

Crash investigators are now working to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the incident.

Police are also urging anyone who saw the rider’s manner of driving before the crash to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
